I felt ashamed hiding in bed Overwhelmed by what lay ahead Desperately trying to gain the strength To face my problems make them end That’s when I found who my friends were Those who stood by me through the worst Helped me rebuild and realise That it’s so good to be alive I’ve never felt so free Just needed to believe The one in charge is me I’m whatever I want to be I’ve never felt so free Now I can finally see The one in charge is me I’m whatever I want to be Who’s ready? Are you ready? To take the bull by the horns and start living Who’s ready? Are you ready? To gamble on yourself and start winning This is your life; it’s up to you Never forget that you can choose If there’s no joy, don’t just make do Try something new, what’s there to lose? When every day feels like a chore You know there should be something more Take a step back, you’ll realise That it feels good to be alive

Safety 04:26
Our paths are crossed They’re intertwined We’ve changed their courses With our new designs So if you’re feeling lost And if you’re feeling scared Or if you feel you can’t go on Just know that I’ll be there To carry you away I am your safety I’ll carry you away I know you’d do the same I’m looking out for you We’re flying high The world’s so small Our problems fading There’s me and you that’s all So if you’re feeling lost And if you’re feeling scared Or if you feel you can’t go on Just know that I’ll be there To carry you away I am your safety I’ll carry you away I know you’d do the same I’m looking out for you I know you’d do the same You’d carry me away You are my safety You’ll carry me away You know I’d do the same

Anywhere 04:30
Let’s go out on a trip today Leave everything else behind It doesn’t matter where we end up I know we’ll have a great time Let’s leave the housework for just this once It can wait ‘til we get home Let’s grab the keys and get out of here I can’t wait to be alone And I’m completely sure You’re what I was searching for I’m completely sure That I’ll never need more Let’s fly through the air Or sail the sea I don’t care where (we go) As long as you’re with me I’d go anywhere with you I’d do anything for you Whenever I’m with you There’s nothing I can’t do I’d go anywhere with you Let’s stop here, add it to our map We’ve never been here before Let’s go and make some new memories It’s waiting to be explored Darling come close I’d love to dance And kiss you under the stars Then you can wrap us in the blanket And put your head on my heart
4.
Escape 04:24
I look forward to a time When I can move in a straight line But when I think I’m doing fine There’s a wall to change my mind And I’ve got to leave this place Before I lose all hope and stay But I’m so lost in this life’s maze And every pathway looks the same I’m pushing forwards They’re pulling backwards I need to break free I will escape And I’ll make my name I will escape And we’ll smile again So I stumble in the night Make decisions without sight When the truth’s so hard to find There’s no way to know what’s right And I feel so useless now I’m just one voice in a crowd I’ve lost the confidence to shout But I need strength to get me out I’m pushing forwards They’re pulling backwards I need to break free I will escape And I’ll make my name I will escape And we’ll smile again And I’ll wave goodbye As I start my life I will escape And I’ll make my name I will escape Goodbye And we’ll smile again Smile again

Star Crossed 04:06
I fought myself forever Scared I’d misread the signs My secret had the power To upturn our lives But this was too important I couldn’t hold it in My head said to ignore it My heart said to give in The impossible Became truth When I risked it all To tell you That I feel whole Around you That my heart and soul Are for you When I look into your eyes I can see so clearly You’re the best part of my life You’re the whole world to me When I look into your eyes You show me love I’ve never known I’m home Now that we are together Each day feels like a gift I get to hear you singing When you’re happy you skip I thought that songs and movies Had to exaggerate But I can say honestly It’s more than worth the wait When their stars collide The light they provide Shines so bright I remember the first time that our hands touched I didn’t expect it to mean so much I woke up, I had never felt so alive I knew that I needed you by my side
6.
When I got the call I was lost for words Everything felt colder with you off this earth I shook, I fell, I cried, I just shut down Memories of you locked everything else out I only hope that I can be As good a friend as you to me Everyone says it’s clear to see The ones you loved are lucky You gave your time so selflessly Put others first ignored your needs Made me part of your family The ones you loved are lucky Safe and sound With you around Do you remember when You showed me I don’t have to pretend To be happy I’ll never forget We’ve had time to heal; we’ve had time to mourn So when we think of you, we can feel your warmth A hole appeared when you had to leave Together, we filled it with our memories

about

‘The Lost Boys Recordings’ started off as preproduction demos but became much more to us, which is why you are holding a copy now. This collection is the culmination of nearly three years of practising, writing and recording, while trying to get the band back on track. We recorded everything ourselves (some songs were recorded several times until we were happy) in our home studios (bedrooms/front rooms/spare rooms) and were so proud of the results that we wanted to share them. The name ‘Lost Boys’ sums up the way we felt for much of this time so seemed the perfect name for this collection. We are no longer Lost Boys but we owe a lot to that time in our lives because without it, we would have never got to the stage we are now and I would not be writing this a week before our first day of recording for our debut album (yes – album!), ‘Kindred Spirits’.

I want to start our story three years ago, back in autumn 2013. Andy, James, Simon and I had a long overdue meeting to talk about the direction of the band. I think the term people use in the music business is ‘musical differences’. We all stayed friends, but decided to go separate ways because we wanted different things. James and Simon would work together, as they had been doing since their early teens, and Andy and I would carry on Safe In The Crossfire. We were the founders of the band and wanted to get back to the style we originally intended, the style of Kindred Spirits.
Moving from a full band with its own practice space and regular gigs to a two-piece was certainly a shift but it did not put us off. We met every week at my house, working on new songs and refining old ones. However, after months of playing acoustically with no luck finding a drummer and all sorts going on in our personal lives, we began to feel lost. We weren’t the band we wanted to be. Although the majority of ‘Complete Me’ and ‘Anywhere’, as well as parts of other songs, were written during this time, we were beginning to lose hope and struggling to write without live drums. We began working on acoustic covers to fill out our set and hopefully teach us new techniques. This wasn’t the direction we had been aiming for and is when the term ‘Lost Boys’ started to feel appropriate. We hadn’t played a gig for about a year and our plan to play acoustic gigs and announce that we were looking for a drummer seemed less and less likely to work.
Our luck changed when we met Dan. I found him on a website for finding musicians (I did the same with Andy, so thought I’d give it another shot) and unlike other people we had contacted, he was straightforward and honest- this was a welcome change! We arranged a practice at Yellow Arch Studios on Sunday 27th April 2014 and everyone clicked instantly. Dan really liked the music and played ‘Escape’ and ‘You’ fantastically. There was no try-out period- he was in the band straight away…
